Trilingual Education in Grades 4-6 – We Strengthen Key Academic Skills in Three Languages
At ITSW, language becomes a magical key that opens the door to discovering knowledge and developing academic skills in a natural, interesting and joyful way.
In grades 4–6, students enter a trilingual environment where language proficiency allows them to passionately explore the world and develop their academic talents every day. Our lessons are conducted in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, and Polish, giving children the opportunity to lively discover knowledge in subjects such as:
- Language and Literature
- Mathematics
- Science and Biology
- History and Geography
- Social and Cultural Education
- Physical Education
- Music and Art

ITSW’s trilingual environment is much more than just learning facts – it is a space where students develop independence, creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills, building the foundation for success in further education and life. Here, every child discovers their potential and learns to boldly pursue their dreams.
ITSW Elementary School Curriculum (Grades 4–6)
At ITSW, every day is a journey through languages and cultures. Our multicultural and trilingual program for grades 4–6 allows students to smoothly and confidently transition to the next stage of their learning, spreading their wings in a safe, supportive environment.
We emphasize respect for diversity, openness, perseverance, and a natural curiosity about the world—values that become the foundation of development in early adolescence. Thanks to these values, students not only acquire knowledge but also develop character, self-confidence, and the ability to discover their passions.

Building Autonomy and Subject-Specific Readiness
In grades 4–6, our students gain increasing independence, learning from subject specialists. At ITSW, we prepare them for this step in advance, building confidence and independence early in their education:
- As early as preschool, children discover the joy of learning by working with multiple teachers, learning to adapt and collaborate.
- In grades 1–3, ITSW gradually introduces subject separation so that students naturally become accustomed to diverse teaching styles.
- ITSW teachers support the experiential learning process, allowing students to make and learn from mistakes, fostering responsibility and independence.
This means that by the time students enter grades 4–6, they have seamlessly transitioned into a more complex learning system, confident in their abilities, curious about the world, and ready for new challenges.

How We Teach: Trilingual Projects and Courses Taught in Several Languages
In grades 4–6 at ITSW, students seize every day as an opportunity to explore the world of languages and develop their full potential. ITSW program combines academic, social, and emotional development with inspiring, multilingual projects that engage students and spark their curiosity.
ITSW teaches subjects in a diverse, thoughtful way:
Bilingually: Mathematics, Science, and Biology – students learn precision and logical thinking while simultaneously mastering foreign languages (e.g., English + Polish or English + French).
Trilingually: Language and Literature, and Social and Cultural Education incl. History and Geography – where languages become a tool for fully understanding the world and developing creativity.
Monolingually: Music, Art, and Physical Education – we provide a clear structure where precision and rhythm of learning are key.
This teaching model allows students to immerse themselves in languages, discover new horizons, and simultaneously feel confident in subjects requiring precision, preparing them for future educational challenges with joy and confidence.
School that Influences the World Beyond the Classroom Walls
The aim of our primary school is to prepare the students for life in a global, multicultural world, learn to have a real impact on their surroundings.
Students participate in international projects, community outreach activities, and a variety of activities that transform school knowledge into practical experience, and give learning real meaning and the joy of exploring the world.

Education Through Projects Based on the Sustainable Development Goals
Our curriulum for grades 4–6 – learning that changes the world!
ITSW curriculum is not just lessons – it’s a journey of discovery and inspiration. Divided into trimester modules, each one focuses on one of the Sustainable Development Goals, allowing students to explore global challenges and learn how they can make a real difference.
It’s not theory – it’s action! Through the “Inspired Citizens” and “Guardian Project” projects, children discover how school acquired skills function in real life. They learn responsibility, cooperation, and empathy, developing social sensitivity and a sense of empowerment.
Each first trimester concludes with an inclusive trip in Poland, where students observe firsthand the processes they learn in class. It’s an unforgettable adventure that combines education with practice, learning with emotions, and play with self-discovery and the world.
Come and see how learning becomes a passion, and children become true citizens of the world!

We Don’t Assign Homework
ITSW – learning that inspires, not overwhelms. We believe that true learning happens at school and through experience, and that time after school should be full of fun, passion, and family life. Instead of traditional homework, our children learn through practical projects and activities that connect knowledge with everyday life. They develop independence and curiosity about the world instead of reproducing ready-made solutions. They have time for extracurricular interests, creativity, and social relationships – crucial for comprehensive development.
At ITSW, education is an adventure, not a duty. At ITSW, education is an adventure, not a duty. Starting in 6th grade, we introduce time for “study time” so that students can additionally reinforce material learnt at school, not at home. We ask parents to cooperate and not do homework – together we create children who love learning and independently discover the world.
Extracurricular Activities that Develop Talents and Passions
After classes, ITSW offers a wide selection of workshops conducted in six languages of instruction. This allows students to:
- develop new interests,
- discover artistic, athletic, or scientific talents,
- strengthen their language skills in a natural way.
The workshops significantly exceed the core curriculum, giving students the space to develop their individual passions.

A Celebration of Diversity and a Full Stage Performance
Diversity is the foundation of ITSW, and students are proud of it.
At ITSW, we wholeheartedly celebrate the richness of cultures and talents. Every year, we organize a full-stage Christmas Show and Culture and Language Festivals. During these unique events, students delight with their musical, artistic, and linguistic talents, demonstrating how diversity creates a vibrant, inspiring community. It’s not just performances – it’s a celebration of creativity, passion, and community!
Green Schools – Discovering Neighboring Countries
Every year, grades 4–6 participate in a 5 day school trip in cooperation with a partner school in one of five neighboring countries. During these trips, they discover similarities in history, culture, and geography; implement joint projects with students from abroad; and build relationships and friendships that will last for years. This is social and cultural education in its most authentic form.
Language Exchanges and International Trips
As a multilingual school, we offer students:
- exchanges with partner schools,
- annual vacation trips to countries where the languages taught at ITSW are spoken.
Our students regularly visit countries such as China and Spain to develop their language skills through daily cultural contact.

The Place of Languages in ITSW Primary School (Grades 4–6)
In grades 4–6, language becomes a tool for academic work, not a subject in itself. A good command of the language of instruction gives students real access to content that will later be assessed and tested—just as in unilingual French, Spanish, British, American, or local schools.

Does My Child Need to Know Three Languages to Join ITSW?
No—at this stage, we require that the student speaks at least one language of instruction (e.g., English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Polish) at a communicative level. This allows them to freely participate in lessons taught by native speakers and understand the subject content.
At ITSW, we use the OPOL principle and work with an immersion model, but in grades 4–6, immersion doesn’t work as quickly as in earlier stages. Therefore, we support students with an intensive Language Support program to help fill language gaps.
What If My Child Does Not Speak Polish or the Language of Instruction Well?
This is a common situation in international schools—and ITSW is prepared for it.
Students who lack sufficient command of Polish, English, Spanish, or French participate in:
An Intensive Language Support Program that:
- Accelerates language learning in a targeted manner,
- Focuses on vocabulary and structures needed for learning subjects,
- Allows students to catch up within 1-2 years,
- Allows students to participate in parallel classes without falling behind.
This ensures that language does not hinder academic progress—even if the child joins later.

What if my child did not acquire the language in grades 1–3?
Children who haven’t been immersed in a foreign language before the of age 9 can still achieve fluency, but language immersion at this stage requires:
- greater intensity,
- time,
- consistent support.
Therefore, in grades 4-6, regular work in the Language Support program and exposure to the language during daily classes conducted in a multilingual model are particularly important.

Parents of students in Grades 4–6, from Warsaw and from international families, speak positively about the quality of education and the way the school supports language development and students’ independence.

FAQ – Parents’ most frequently asked questions about the so-called upper primary (grades 4-6)
Does a child need to know three languages to begin studying at ITSW (grades 4–6)?
No. A communicative knowledge of one language of instruction, such as English or French, Spanish or Polish is sufficient. Other languages are developed throughout the course.
What if my child doesn’t speak Polish?
This is common in international schools. The student receives intensive support through the Language Support program and participates in classes in the language they already know.
Will children who join later catch up?
Yes—the Language Support program helps achieve fluency in 1–2 years, alongside their subject learning.
What about children who didn’t acquire the language earlier (e.g., in grades 1–3)?
They can join, but they need more time for immersion. Regular language classes and work with native speakers accelerate the process.
How does ITSW ensure that lack of language skills doesn’t slow down learning?
Subjects are taught bilingually and trilingually, so students attend classes in the language they know – this prevents academic backlogs and allows language skills to be developed gradually.
